For those who haven't been following along, I have daily posts about living in the Northern Ontario from Day one of the COVID Lock-Down in Canada.  Most of it is based on facts, some of it is in code and not as it may seem (gotta keep the man on his toes)... It's our story since the Day Hockey Ended in Canada.  Nothing to take too seriously, don't get too bent out of shape about my views on anything, you might be missing the sarcasm, I may be ranting because I find it amusing, odds are I frankly don't give a shit, even though I seem unstable, bent a certain way, a raving sociopath... trust me, I'm fine... and if you can't find the humor in something here, do a self assessment, read it again... and repeat until you don't care either.  LOL  Enjoy.

Day 224

Posted 10/21/2020
Day 224: A very full day, I've been putting this off because it could prove to be long and boring. Humpday... Made the boy a warm meal, set out his lunch and went for a shower. I look outside, fucking snow everywhere! A good 10" on the car. I break out the scraper, take 3 sweeps at the car and the ice scraper end breaks off and slices my arm open. I finish cleaning the car off, get in and head to sidekick's place... Just out of town the highway is closed. Now I have to say, it's has been closed down every day since Saturday in one direction or the other, some times twice a day... People can't understand that the first few snow falls off the year are slippery, and the car/truck isn't going to handle as well as it does on dry pavement... I divert to back roads to get where I'm going and it takes twice as long. Sidekick and his mom come with me into town. I drop them off at the doctor's office and I head over to shoppers drug mart for some stuff to repair the ice scraper hole in my arm... I also buy a watch and some jerky then head back to get the sidekick family. Waiting for them to come out, I breach the jerky wrapper and eat a piece... No where near as good as mine, it taste odd... The next piece I pull out is covered in mold, yup that's the flavor profile right there... PC brand, teriyaki flavor, teriyaki and mold flavor actually. They come out and we all head back to shoppers to return the furry meat. Now when I bought it they tried to up sell me a Lotto ticket... I told the clerk that it's was not looking like a lucky day that I would pass... To recap: snow, ice scraper injury, moldy meat, closed highway... And it's only 9am. Ya, Lotto tickets were not in the cards today. I get my money back. Then I go to the auto parks store with the core from the brake job I did a week or so ago... Time to get money back, no problem, not an issue... Well I did buy a new ice scraper... So I got back only half the money. To the bank and then lunch... A & W puts my burger on a bun rather than a lettuce wrap, I ask them to fix it, because of COVID they can't just slide it off the bun onto the lettuce, they need to throw it out and start again. So I wait, not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things. Now the main point of lunch was to waste time today... Sidekick had to meet a guy in a parking lot to buy a minivan so we did that on the way home.  Seems like a shady deal but I've bought vehicle from people in dark out of the way parking lots before too so we will just see how this plays out. Lol. I drop the Kick Family off at home and then go for eggs at the farm. Then the post office... My new cheques were in which means I can send in the app for my PAL. I fill out the cheque, stick it in the envelope sitting on the dash, walk back in and mail it off... Looks like there may be a new gun in my future. Home at last. A sit down and play one game of pool... Sidekick shows up, had work in the area and stopped by for a coffee. We had not hit our coffee quota for the day yet, no stop at Timmies today. Boy got in and squirreled away into the basement before the coffee had actually finished brewing. We had time for one coffee before the wife made it home, she then joined us. We did get to discuss the trailer project before she got in... I took inventory of the parts I have around the house and I shouldn't need a lot. Sidekick left and I put on some leftover soup and made some sausages for dinner. See, I told you it was a long day. My dad even called so looks like the shift from bad things happening to good things happening was the cheques at the post office... Apparently he was making plans to come by for a visit... Visitors are rare living way up there... We are averaging about 1 every two or three years. So we are now looking forward to that... Maybe on the weekend. Going to have to dig out some place for him to sleep... Hey it's just like when we go down there. So it's hockey practice tonight, still need to do that... Lawson and I head out, the roads are getting better. I stayed to watch the practice. Apparently the board members are dropping like flies and they need a minimum number of people at the meeting to actually vote and approve things. Rather than following the by laws and sending out notice of the positions that need filled, waiting the required time for new directors to submit an app and then selecting a new director from the applicants, they just asked me if I would do it. I don't mind helping out... They went sure why it wasn't just re-elected, I told them it was because no one voted for me... Well the person who asked said they voted for me, lol. So there was me, 2 friends that were voted in and are the reasons they need another director and the one person asking me to help, witch ultimately leaves me with only one person on the board that wants me there, lol... Should prove interesting, the resistance to change or following rules has to be why they don't want me, can't be my charming personality. ROTFLMOA. I watched the rest of the boys practice, he's doing well, they seem to at least be trying to do a little bit of semi related goalie stuff with him but it definitely needs some refinement. A step in the right direction. My guess is the other goalie never showing up in goalie gear because they did nothing with them has something to do with it. Tightened the lug nuts on the Subaru before heading home. Got home at 8 to find Heather tying more knots in strings... This thing has cables in it apparently... You think with the new tech they have out now that she would use Bluetooth rather than cables but I'm staying out of it, just safety that way. We watched 2 more episodes of Blacklist... That's 2 seasons down 4 or 5 more to go. I turned the tv off, Heather was still trying knots... Eventually she gave up and went to sleep.

Day 223

Posted 10/20/2020

Day 223: Garbage day... More french toast, lunch packed, garbage gathered and out the door. Not sure why he insists on putting the garbage can in the middle of the driveway but hey, at least it's getting to the side of the road. Not going to complain. Hmm, where to start? Driveway, changed the remaining 2 tires on the Mazda, it now has 4 studded tires and is good to go... I set out 4 more studded tires in the driveway ready to bolt on the Subaru when Heather got home. Fought with the bank for a bit... Seems to be a trend starting there... Cleaned up the kitchen some and looked for the garbage bags for the kitchen can... No dice, they were no doubt squirreled away some place by the wife, she found them when she got home... hidden in the laundry room. SideKick stopped by for a coffee in the afternoon, didn't stick around long before having to get back to work. By mid afternoon the snow was starting to melt. Boy made it home, followed shortly there after by Heather. She heated up some leftovers for Lawson before we had to head out to hockey. We all piled in the Subaru to test the new studded winter tires out... They are noisy but they work. Dumped the boy off at hockey practice and the adults went for a coffee. Got back just in time to help him pack up his gear and head back to Timmies for a smoothie, he claimed to have worked hard and needed it to refuel. Home by 8 ish and into the night time routine, a routine that now seems to involve knot tying and the Blacklist.

Day 222

Posted 10/19/2020

dDay 222: Got up Heather was gone... Not to worry this happens frequently... Something a about stupid o'clock. French toast... Which reminds me, yesterday in the way home from ringette when we stop at Timmies, I asked for a French cruller. I ask you, when in the last 20 years did they change the name to honey cruller? I know they changed it, I just don't remember when... Fuck some of these employees might not have been born yet... Maybe that's why they look at me funny... They really have no idea that it used to be called French cruller... Maybe it was an issue where the French didn't want to be associated with donuts any longer and it is not PC any more to call them that... Beats me what this world is coming to... After breakfast Lawson bagged up his lunch and hit the road. Still not feeling great I lay low for the bulk of the day... Waiting for a break in the cold and wet outside so I can get the rest of the tires changed... It never came. Heather got home and we went over to the store to get some cheese... That soup was almost done but needed cheese. We finished it up and has it for dinner... Once again a wonderful thing. A little music, some knot tying, a few episodes of the Blacklist and we called it a night... The lay low theme carried on into the night. Seems we are done or almost done season 2. That's a lot of tv watching for a family that normally averages less that 10 hours of tv a month. Hopefully it will be over soon and we can get back to our normal lives. You know, liked when COVID19 ends.

Day 221

Posted 10/18/2020

Day 221: ok, the day technically started very early... After Netflix I set in motion to dispatch the ham... Depigeon it... Make little cubes for omelettes, slices for samiches and the rest went into the soup pot. Over the night I made frequent checks and cooked the bones down with the subpar meat and made the base of what should be another yummy soup... I'm thinking ham, cheese, onions cauliflower... Heather was up by 7 and since it was up still the day started early. Maybe not early by weekday standards but definitely too early for a Sunday. Western omelettes with cheese... Yes don't bust my hump, cheese makes everything better. Oh and bacon... Can't not have bacon on the weekend. The jerky... Can't forget that. It went into the dehydrator for about 6 hours. Making your own it cost about 1/3 to 1/2 as much money so the machine will hold about $50 of cheep meat and make about $125 worth of jerky... Which we eat twice as fast because it's handy and you don't want it to go bad now do you? LOL throughout the morning we played a little more music before sticking a little more for in the boy before ringette practice. Now this year at ringette he seems to be getting some actual goalie training. It's coming from people that know hockey association is not ringette specific but it's goalie training which is a lot more than he gets away hockey. I'm pretty impressed so far, they seem to actually care what he's doing it there. All in all a good practice and good practices need to be followed up with a smoothie and a donut from Timmies. Brought Heather home a coffee as well... After all she stayed home to make dinner. Chicken wings/ deep fried chicken fingers breaded with pork rhines, blue cheese dressing with veggies... Mmmm. Then more Blacklist and knot tying before bed.

Day 220

Posted 10/17/2020

Day 220: Saturday, Heather got up, fed herself and got ready for band camp in Timmins. The boy squirreled away into the basement to play video games with his friends... And I was left to putter around in the kitchen. Cranberries... Ingredient of the morning was cranberries. Cranberry pancakes... Lawson said surprise me, so... They turned out well, very yummy, I made some for him and some for me... Definitely something I will be doing again. With brunch out of the way I started looking at dinner... Ham... What to do with the ham in the fridge? Well as it turns out cooking it was what needed to be done. I timed out so it would come out of the oven at 5 pm, finished cleaning up the kitchen and retired to the bed room to wait for the return of the wife... That only lasted 3 minutes before she walked in the door to find me lying around doing nothing... She has impeccable timing... I wonder she got that from. After dinner we played a little music... Looking for something we can play together, please for the love of God someone tell me why the sax and the keyboard are in 2 different keys... Sure I get that the sax is a b flat but why... All her notes are half a key out. Sure it can just time the keyboard to play the same but it's not the same... It sounds out of tune... I guess I should have taken more music theory in school, or any music theory for that matter. The day ended with knot tying and the Blacklist again... Seem to be falling into a rut.

Day 219

Posted 10/16/2020

Day 219: TGIF woke up got the boy fed and off to school... Then I had a long blink... It involved staying under the blankets trying to stay warm. Did feel well, temperature was fine, no COVID symptoms, maybe I ate something I shouldn't have like... Umm... Maybe pie. Starting to think the GF thing might be a real issue. We scavenged leftovers for dinner, no progress was made on the jerky... Watched some Netflix while the wife made knots again, crash someplace in there after sending the boy to bed.

Day 218

Posted 10/15/2020

Day 218: Argh, not moving well today... Did too much yesterday. Lawson had cereal for breakfast and packed his own lunch. After he was off to school, SideKick stopped by for a coffee... We took a death tole count on project x to square up the loses. Did some paperwork and issued him another photo for his PAL... Eventually he had to go back to work. I started on the jerky. Part way through I got a call from a good friend from down south... I gotta tell you I truly have an interesting bunch of friends, very different people from different places and times, different mindsets and areas of expertise or knowledge. It keeps me always looking at things from angles that are not based from within the box. Anyway, we talked money, politics, and speculated on the price of a loaf of bread this time next year... Not looking pretty by any stretch of the imagination. I finished slicing and depidgeoning the beef while I was on the phone. After the call and jerky was taken care of I started in on the turkey soup. We do a lot of cooking, most of what we eat is home made, not a lot of packaged foods... And well soup is a natural thing to make out if many of the leftovers both pre and post cooking... Lawson always looks forward to the soup... He's not a fan of leftovers but soup is definitely the exception. That consumed the rest of the afternoon, as Heather was getting in all it needed was her ok on the salt levels (she's a little sensitive to the salt so I put too little in and wait for her to add to taste... Because her taste levels constantly change from day to day for some reason). We ate, it was wonderful, Heather even added some noodles to Lawson's before it hit his bowl... Gotta keep his carbs up to keep him fueled up for hockey. Oh and cheese... Couldn't forget to put some cheese on top, havarti... Yes that's all it needed. Afterwards we binge watched a few more episodes of the Blacklist before turning in for the night.

Day 217

Posted 10/14/2020

Day 217: Humpday, got the boy off to school on time today and headed out to pick up sidekick and his mom. More doctor's appointments... A little shopping and picked up the skate blades. I had more planned but forgot my wallet so going to the bank and post office was a moot point and the PAL application never got sent in. As a consolation prize sidekick bought lunch today and then coffee on the way out of town. Dropped the 2 of them off at home and headed back to Matheson. Now the brakes on the car are getting bad so before the snow buries us something needed done. I took care of the back end this afternoon. Changed a caliper on one side and just the pads on the other. E-brake cable was a bitch, I'm sure they make a tool to just pop those on but I don't own one. I had to loosen the cable where it attaches to the handbrake... Not a major issue because the cover just pulls right off... Hmm, by the looks of these screws attached to the plastic cover, I'm pretty sure these aren't supposed to pop right off... Man the interior is crap in the Mazda. (Trust me, that's the short list of what's wrong with it). Anyway no one cares about the brake job... You all just want to make sure I put the snow tires on it rather than bolting the 2 months of the year summer tires back on... And yes I did. BUT I didn't have time to do the front as well, so now I at least have some traction just in case. Heather was late getting home from work but we grabbed a quick snack and head off to hockey practice again. Tonight for the 2nd half they played a little scrimmage game with themselves, I sat on the bench since there was only one coach on the ice and the trainer wasn't there... I have my papers to fill in, all was good... The biggest job was trying to keep the kids apart on the bench. Heather watched from the stands... Pretty sure this was the first time she saw him practice with the team this season. Eventually it was over and we head home. Back by 8, enough time to watch an episode of Blacklist before packing it in for the day. Oh and some of us may or may not have gotten into the pumpkin pie before bed... But I'm pretty sure that's just an ugly rumor.

Day 216

Posted 10/13/2020

Day 216: Heather's gone, I don't recall her getting up or leaving or anything this morning... Apparently the alarm to get Lawson up for school didn't wake me either. Eventually we both crawled out of bed and met in the kitchen. Now I'm one of those good parents the teachers like... What do I do that is special? If the boy is up too late, rather than waking him up in the morning, I let him sleep in and drive him to school... How does this help? Boy with no sleep is an ass hat the whole next day... I say they would rather deal with late in Lawson rather than ass hat Lawson any day of the week. They may not know what I do for them but I feel it goes beyond what most parents would consider normal. You are welcome. I drove him to school, he was only 30 minutes late but had a good day. Sidekick stopped by for a coffee. We talked shop, talked about building permits, and filled in some paperwork... Looks like I'm going to get my PAL... Hunting with the boomerang was starting to prove more difficult than I had originally thought it would be. We ate cheesecake and pie, extra whipped cream... Once again horrible diet food. He eventually got called away to do more work. Shortly after he left I got a message about going to town today or at 6am tomorrow... Which means leaving the house at 5am to get everything ready to go... I opted for now. Picked up some stuff for Joan, then got sidekick in the car... Off to Timmins. 1st stop the airport... Must have been a noob at the place, she didn't know who Joan was or where she lived. We harvested signatures for the government from Mel to fill in the rest of the forms... I Keep falling to sleep, I'll finish this tomorrow.

Gas, a coffee, then we head back for Matheson. Almost made it home before Heather called wondering what I was doing. Really she only needs to check her phone... All the messages I get and send are there for her to read, we use the same account on both phones for communicating with... So to all the guys out there sending my wife dick pics... ROTFLMAO, go find one of those ads on the web selling male enhancement pills... You aren't even in the ball park yet. Dropped off sidekick and went home for dinner. Would you believe Turkey Samiches? Yup. Afterwards we tried to hunt down the paperwork proving Heather took her courses to get her PAL... They weren't on file with the government.  No dice, or papers for that matter. Going to have to try again later. The boy and I headed off to Iroquois Falls for hockey practice. We have 50:50 tickets for sale now if you want them $10 each, just message me. All was good except for some kid directing a Slapshot at his back while he was still clearing the last shot from the crease... They had gotten to the point the coach was making sure they were not stacking the short up to close to each other to give Lawson time to work on positioning and tracking the puck But the coach that was working on that wasn't there tonight... Long story short he was told to track and clear the pucks today by me before he went on the ice... As he was clearing a puck buried deep under him, facing the back wall, one of the players thought it would be a good idea to fire a slap shot at him from the hash marks and nailed him in the back where there is almost no padding. I'm not impressed. The boy limped around for a bit, not really saving shots anymore as much as he was just standing in net stopping only the shots that hit him... They need to learn, if kids are scoring on him, there is something wrong, send him for a skate or to the bench for a breather, he's not going to want to go but standing in net and not reacting to shots is only asking for more trouble. We hit Timmies on the way home and packed in the day when we got to there.
