Day 15

Posted 3/26/2020

Day Fifteen: I ponder to myself how long I'm going to keep writing out these numbers rather than just typing the number... Lawson was up at 5:30 am... Watched Mommy eat breakfast... likely went back to his bedroom to watch videos or something. LOL Egg and Cheese on a bagel again today, gotta use up the bagels before they go bad... which lead me to really assess the rest of the food in the kitchen... not a hoarding issue as much as an inventory control problem exasperated by a shift in eating due to newly discovered medical conditions... Oh, and short arms... most of these cupboards are almost 3 feet deep, I'm looking at likely 400-500 cubic feet of food storage... near the backs of these cavernous storage receptacles are cans of stuff that date back to when we moved up north. With 3 teenagers and 2 adults, everything you buy is just a flat of this a gross of that, looks like hoarding but it's a process that needs repeating every few weeks. ANYWAY I started to clean off the shelves, organize them so we don't keep buying things we already have but can't find... I made a few boxes of food that need to be disposed of... they've been separated from the heard and if we don't get into a multi month lockdown situation and need it to survive... the fallout shelter food is going to be going to it's final resting place... the town dump. Perogies for lunch while we spent some time making soup from a Turkey carcass I found laying about, soooo much better than chicken or beef broth by the box. Heather made some more flour free buns after dinner and found some educational material to keep the boys mind from rotting away watching gaming videos. Oh and got in some of the parts for the dishwasher, might tackle that tomorrow. Boring day all in all.

Day 14

Posted 3/25/2020

Day fourteen: everyone should be better or dead now. Woke the boy up and fed him an egg and cheese sandwich on an everything bagel, told him to get dressed we were going out, he smiled and asked if he had to go to hockey, unfortunately no... so he ate in front of the video game playing hockey on the TV in the basement. We went to Timmins. The trusty sidekick picked us up, I drove into town, took care of pressing medical matters and check on dishwasher parts, not in, they will drop them off tomorrow. Had to buy cauliflower (keto people will die without this), walked in, picked 2 up (fortunately they were no more than 12 feet from the door, sure everyone in Timmins has walked by and fondled them by now but I didn't have to walk through the whole store of people <which I despise in the first place even on a none SARSday>), walked directly to self checkout and blipped the machine and tapped the card and out the door... I did however notice they have TP now (people had it in their carts)... Honestly I'm broke... always have been... which leads to thoughts like this: Now I have 4 or 5 rolls at home and normally I would be starting to look for sales on TP if it wasn't the end of the world... HOWEVER... stores are ordering this stuff by the truck load... there is going to come a point in time very shortly I figure that the demand is going to dry up... these stores are going to be sitting on a million rolls of toilet paper in the storage room and no place to put any of their normal stock... at that point it's 5 cents a roll to try and get rid of it... that's the day I'm waiting for to shop for TP. MIND YOU... that's not today, there is still a limit 1 one bag per customer at the YIG. I know this because some Twat was trying to buy a whole shopping cart of the stuff and make it out through the self checkout lanes. Staff stopped him and he claimed that he thought the limit was one 'box' full of bags of TP. I seriously thought about waiting until he came out, backing over him with my car and then stealing his fucking TP... but alas my car was still at home in the driveway buried in snow waiting to be dug out. Heather got home from work a little after us with a request for Pancakes for dinner... odd yes, but she got a taste of what I posted the other day and needed some. I think I pretty much have it down pat, I may post my recipe if I get a chance... she claims you can't even tell it's GF never mind Keto. She will be heading back to work tomorrow, some of her co-workers aren't as lucky as the workload is starting to dry up... no drills turning = no core to log, so it's only a matter of time before she's home for good and we all starve to death. We're just glad KLGold is keeping them on as long as possible to lessen the financial burden of times to come. Anyway we watched another movie tonight, Indiana Jones, one I've never seen, almost had enough action to keep the boy interested, not many movies do. We've had more TV in the last 2 weeks than in the last 4 months. Funny, I used to get more than that in a day as a kid. Brush your teeth and off to bed with you now.

Day 13

Posted 3/24/2020

Day thirteen: The boy moved up to Semi-Pro in hockey today, the games were a lot more fair but he's still winning. Decided to do some school work today just to see where he's at... can't play computer hockey all day long (well he could but)... here is a map of the world label a dozen countries... I kinda figured he was sitting at the computer anyway, wouldn't be that hard to look up... I turned around to put something away in the kitchen and 2 minutes later he hands me back the paper, he didn't bother looking anything up (apparently the computer was off and he doesn't like the search feature on his iPad browser, fair enough)... 'here I did 20 can I finish watching my video?' Um er, ya I guess. Geography and international affairs... Check... doesn't look like we need to go there again for a while. The UK, France and Ireland weren't even one's he chose to do (not enough room on the map there he said) He did spell Egypt wrong but I'll let that slide. Maybe tomorrow we will do math... still need to work on his Hockey stats for the season, computer hockey doesn't count towards the stats so it's all pretty much over. We cooked for a bit this afternoon, turkey dinner, played a few computer games... completely non constructive day. Heading into town in the morning, likely do a lot of sitting in the car again, waiting in parking lots. Looked in the fridge, still full, can't shop, no more room for food... which leads me to believe we had way too much stuff on the shelves and in the freezer before this thing hit Canada. I do have to pick up dishwasher parts if they are in, I'll call in the morning to confirm they are in before adding another stop to the agenda. Heather's beat from the extra day at work this weekend, fell to sleep hours ago... I might just do the same.

Day 12

Posted 3/23/2020

Day twelve: ReCertified some of my hockey coaching stuff on line this morning while Lawson fired up another game of NHL 2020... dad I got 10 goals and 4 assists in one game... is that good? Good enough to earn you the opportunity to play at a higher level... try playing whatever the level up from pussy is... things you wish you could tell your kids LOL... Alright so I'm not in a great mood today. Called the town about the snowed in issue... apparently because I don't regularly shovel my driveway, it's ok for them to dump big blocks of snow and ice at the end which make it impossible to get into our out of my driveway... no I can't remove it with a shovel, or my quad with a plough, or my lawn tractor with the scoopy bucket thing, nor likely a pickup with a full size plough on... so now I have to higher someone with a front end loader or something to come remove this shit they put there. Not impressed... also we can't get the car in the driveway so they told me they will be sure to send the bylaw officer around to ticket my car parked in the ally because they are not being big enough Dick Heads about the situation. All I want is the pile of ice blocks they dumped there removed, I don't want my driveway shoveled. Going to try again tomorrow with someone from the town, if not I will get it removed and send them a bill... I'll take it to small claims court if I have to, I can file the paperwork and have lots of time on my hands, not a big deal... pretty sure it would have been easier not to fuck me over in the first place... or just remove the fucking snow properly. Honestly I live on the worse maintained road in town, the school buses from our school won't even drive down it anymore and I have photos if anyone ever needs them for accident related problems that need to go to court... at least 4 years of them, because complaining doesn't seem to help here. Oh and if they ticket the car while I'm waiting to get the shit removed at the end of the driveway I will add that to the small claims amount as well... bunch of fucking idiots I swear. Fucking internet went out today as well, ongoing intermittent problem for almost 2 years now... fuck them too. Hope they all catch COVID and die a miserable death. But I'm not bitter. ROTFLMAO

Day 11

Posted 3/22/2020

Day eleven: Only 3 more days until the world is COVID free. Right? Heather went to work today... they have a thermometer, ours doesn't work, so we send her in to be tested each day, theory being if she's not sick, we aren't sick... and as a bonus she gets overtime money to make up for when they inevitably close the doors... there were less people in her core shack than in our house... party of one, no one in the way. Lawson's major concern this morning was the goalies on his team. For some reason on the roster they had the All-Star goalie as backup for the Rookie... it upset him because he couldn't pull the rookie 5 minutes into the 1st period. LOL, he's going to make a fun coach to play minor hockey for... He then took a stab at finishing off the crumpets, homemade butter is almost gone. So we found that biome with the soulsand, -1000, 76, -950, we had been 1600 blocks off center in more than one other direction and that's a lot of travel for the nether. And dear lord we found where the Ghasts live, at one point there were 6 of them circling our heads. Pretty much out of arrows and no place to restock the situation turned grim as we resorted to hitting the fireballs they hurl at us back at them as a primary means of attack. Lawson remembered to bring the new nether anchor to set his spawn point in the nether, he put it down, charged it up and then was set on fire (again), let's just say he got some use out of that new toy. After lunch we got back to fixing the dishwasher. I completely took the rest of the sump and pumps out of the machine, cracked them open and cleaned out the insides, nothing that a normal person should ever have to do to a dishwasher I might add... don't I find a broken rubber check valve mixed in with the debris mostly blocking one of the ports on the pump assembly, $4.95 part makes the machine useless... but it did confirm what I had figured the problem was in the first place, the drain backing up into the machine... one hose couldn't be salvaged and I will look for a new check valve this week when the stores are open... they are going to open right? Maybe I'll just show the boy how to wash dishes. Anyway I put it all back together so I could flip the breaker back on as the gas stove runs off the same circuit and because lighting the stove with a lighter is just to much trouble, lol... so now since we've lived here, I've had apart and repaired the fridge, the stove, the dishwasher, the clothes drier... but when it came to the washing machine having intermittent problems, I looked at it, said fuck that, and bought a new one. So that's about where I draw the line in the sand. So with getting the stove back working and enough space in the kitchen to move, breakfast was for dinner, bacon, poached eggs, bagels, pancakes, sausage... quick and simple, no fuss or muss. Lawson played on the internet for a bit, I grabbed a shower and we packed it in early tonight. March break is over... back to school in the morning. Maybe a will have him read a french book, he does have a new french recipe book around and I could use breakfast in bed... ah, homeschooling  - Maybe I will get French Toast, who knows.

Day 10

Posted 3/21/2020

Day Ten: Everyone is home, hence the boy was up exceptionally early considering the movie lasted until almost 10pm last night. He quietly went to the basement to finish a season of hockey on the video game he had started the day before... you could hear his play by play accounts of the action for hours before we gave up and started the day. He came up and for some reason wanted to make Crumpets... Some days I wonder where he gets these notions from, but sure we can do that for breakfast... he finds a recipe and gets started... I head into help, seriously he needs to make butter too... not that we are out, but you need fresh butter to go on the crumpets once they are made... Heather mentioned that she feels sorry for his future wife... you go to his profile on Netflix and there are cartoons and cooking shows... maybe more cooking shows... You think he would be bigger eating like this all the time... but no. Damn, I think the wife has been randomly walking through the kitchen all day and just eating butter... and that's why we can't have nice things. Need to finish cleaning the hockey gear, it's stacked up in the kitchen, meh, maybe tomorrow. We never did fine the new biome with all the SoulSand in it... we looked for that way too long before something constructive came about... Fixing the dishwasher (DON'T Ever buy an LG Dishwasher)… now I have no idea what half wit designed this piece of garbage but it seems there is a float in it to turn things on and off at different water levels... now picture the dirty water floating about inside the dishwasher... now explain to me the rational of a 3 foot long horizontal hose linked to a tank with floats in it that uses the dirty water from the dishwasher to operate on... dirt goes in, water comes out, dirt goes in, water comes out, rinse cycle, water goes in (because the dishes are clean now) and water and dirt comes out, then sprays all over the dishes... nice. So I've cleaned out the hose (DIRT, doesn't even begin to describe the shit that came out and there was definitely a reason I was washing the dishes by hand when they came out of the machine), I cleaned the tank, the floats, at this point it looks like it goes right back into the main assembly so tomorrow I get to crack that open and see if I can get the filth out of it... if not I'm just buying a new dishwasher, I'm not spending 400$ on parts for a machine with a design flaw that just spews shit all over the dishes then bakes it on... it the end the dishes were coming out worse than they went in... needless to say I'm not impressed. Now there is 4 bags of hockey gear in my kitchen, a good portion of the stuff from the dining room (don't ask), and the stuff from under the sink and the dishwasher and the parts from inside the dishwasher and tools and ARGH!!! Oh and the KitchenAid mixer is on the floor too... there's another piece of crap we own, had a Cuisinart stand mixer and the wife upgraded to this gem, I finally gave up on it this morning making butter, tossed it aside, got out the hand whisk and did it by hand... I don't know what country they make this crap in now but it's not even close to the old Hobart stuff. Wuhan, no new cases... looks like we are down to only 4 more days and the whole world will be back to normal because we have all been practicing Social Distancing... I talked to a friend today that wasn't clear on the topic... I told him it's kinda different up here, he asked how so... I said, We have lived here for almost 15 years, how many times have you come to visit... BTW the answer is 0... see, social distancing.

Day 9

Posted 3/20/2020

Day Nine: The Days are starting to blur together, I think it's Friday. The boy slept in today, he didn't get up until 10am, around 9:30 I started to wonder if he was still alive, I checked... he was. It snowed, a lot... they used the front end loader to dump a shit load of snow from the road up onto my property (apparently it's ok for them to do, but not us to do) AND today they took all that hard packed shit and pushed it into my driveway. No way to even shovel it out if I wanted, going to need to be removed with a front end loader or something. Hence Heather had no way to get back in the driveway after work today. Going to have to call the town and have them rectify the problem. The boy had an egg and cheese sammy for breakfast, I swear a box of cereal last 6 months here, but honestly who would opt for cereal when you can have a hot meal every morning. Hockey was still on Lawson's mind... a little hockey in the basement lead to making plays on my coach's whiteboard and coming to check with me every ten minutes to see if these were good plays to run in practice, not sure if people know how into hockey he is... A mission was started yesterday that needed tending to... we traded gold for ender pearls yesterday in the nether with one of the new mobs... which as you all know leads to the need for killing blazes, collecting rods, hunting down the strong hold and power up the end portal, check, check, and check... we opted not to enter after assessing our inventory, 14 arrows, 3 pork chops and a bunch of beat armour that wasn't up for the task... the trip to the end was put on hold as we went home to tend to the chickens and bees. Homemade bacon cheese burgers on fresh baked buns was on the agenda for dinner and a movie before bed.

Day 8

Posted 3/19/2020

Day Eight: Hockey Videos on YouTube... We don't have Cable, Lawson doesn't watch full NHL games live, he watches highlights on YouTube and other sites, that's the way hockey is consumed in our house... Frankly current is nice but the action archived on the internet is impressive. You don't have to sit through a complete shit game to see 2 good plays. Want to watch Canada win a gold medal, not a problem. So the day started with Hockey despite the current situation. He misses hockey.  A few cinnamon buns, fruit and a glass of milk was in order to help ease the pain. I think he snuck in a gamers video in there too, he is just a normal kid sometimes. Lunch was posted in another post on my wall, he sacrificed 1/2 cup of our depleting flour supply, seemed like a fair use of the resources. Matching his normal lunch I made a post apocalyptic version for myself using witchcraft and voodoo, it was equally yummy and didn't stress my culinary skills beyond throwing some stuff together, there was no reading of recipes or anything rash like that. Now to do their part in the aid to humanity Mojang released an update to the Nether in Minecraft... Lawson and I are Minecraft aficionado, no trust me, we are better than you. LOL Anyway there is a lot going on in the new version of the Nether, we spent the afternoon exploring the new biomes, interacting with the new mobs, collecting and using many of the new blocks, lucky he looked up the new setspawn block before we used it in the over world... we made it and placed it in the middle of the new castle, could have been bad if we charged it someplace other than the Nether... BOOM!!! Mississippi Pot Roast for dinner, extra butter and stuff... no time to clean more hockey gear today, still lots to cleaning but no hurry to clean it. A new episode of The Flash came out today, watched that with the family... pretty bland day all in all, I tried to limit my access to COVID media drivel, still disgusted with the hoarding, still convinced that people have no idea what to hoard... pretty sure if I told them they should hoard GoaliePow shirts to protect them from the plague we would sell out tomorrow... I did post a link above didn't I? Oh and people can't cook. I swear, I'm going to start a doomsday prep class after this blows over and make millions of dollars teaching people how to cook, what to keep in stock and how not to lose their freaking minds when the Russians attack... you wait, they are coming... I'm telling you... be prepared... not like you all are this time, I mean really prepared. Enjoy your remaining days, stay safe, and don't touch anything I wouldn't touch.

Day 7

Posted 3/18/2020

Day Seven: Into the belly of the beast, headed into Timmins today with Lawson and Short Round, local businesses are starting to fold or are on the verge of closing OR resorting to government controls and poking product out windows in the sides of buildings that open into back allies, it's like we are purchasing drugs or something... oh no, not drugs that will make you well like those they should have at Shoppers Drugmart, the bad kind, the kind you buy from people that you shouldn't remember after you walk away and are later questioned about by the authorities. And speaking of Shopper Drugmart, the shelves there too are starting to show the insanity as the hoarding continues... no TP again... but other things that bewilder me, why buy drugs for a disease you don't have? Never mind stockpile the stuff? No one has the plague here at this point, the spars population and limited contact has us almost individually wrapped... If only those who got infected and needed drugs bought drugs, the store would have more than enough in stock if people weren't hoarding the stuff... if you bought 8 bottle of Tylenol last week, do us a favor and eat them all now, the world doesn't need people like you anyway... That's my public service announcement for the week. I buy medication sparingly only for things I need, currently there is enough expired medication in my house to open my own drug store... I can only imagine peoples homes 2 years from now when all this stuff that people purchased for when they get SARS actually expires. What got me started on this drug rant, I didn't even go to Shoppers today... Oh ya selling fast food like Drugs in allies... So people can't cook can they? All the bread is gone at the grocery stores, there is still lots of bread around, Short Round got some... but I'm not going to tell you where, if you don't know where to get bread, it's really not that important to you or you would be buying it there in the first place. Flour, they are running out of flour, only the white stuff, I wonder how long it will take before people start buying the other kinds and then letting them rot in their homes because they have no idea what to do with them... I can't remember the last time I ate anything with flour in it... pretty sure it's not on my list of things to stock in the bunker. What did I go to town for? Chiropractors appointment, still open because they sell food there too, LOL... MPs office closed, we need to complain about things via email now... only needed a few things at the grocery store, didn't bother with a cart, magic erasers (so much better than TP leaves my butt hole sparkly clean)... ground beef, that's running low, machines likely running on high, I'm almost worried what they are putting through the grinder but I'm worried about that most days so... Oxiclean, a spoon full of that at every meal should make the poop come out clean and I won't have to wipe. Windshield wiper broke while we were out, bought a new one at CT and installed it... no shortage there, almost like the TP isle PRE COVID-19. Oh and no sports equals no sports store... looks like O'Reilly's was going to go with modified hours but there's not a lot of people looking to get their skates sharpened for events that aren't happening... Check them out Online, if the doors are closed you can always get something from them online... but they had no PuckOut in the store today, looks like a next season thing. Timmies on the way home... I didn't have to ask the question, "Do you want to go in?" as I pulled in the parking lot. Decommissioned an old computer on the way home and Boy got a new chair for his room. And finished that game of Monopoly... why do they think I'm trying to win? Seriously my advice is good, take it... if you have more than 14 dollars and most of your properties are mortgage free and you are not plotting something, you are missing out on spending money on something... mortgage your mother to buy a hotel if you have to, seriously.

Day 6

Posted 3/17/2020

OK We are into Day Six but I will bring you full details of the day tonight... this is a SPECIAL REPORT!!!
It seems our illustrious leader (no not that dick head, I'm talking about Ford)... has just declared a state of emergency on this auspicious occasion we refer to as St Pats Day. In view of the recent SARS Epidemic parties tonight will be limited to 50 participants per dwelling. Get your occupancy thumb counters out and make sure your security keeps an accurate count of the number of people in your home at any given time. In this state of Emergency the LCBO apparently has lost control and alcohol sales are now covered under military law. Now you can call your local Pub and have them deliver... No more St Pat's Day DWI's... this is brilliant. Yo, Duggy

Day Six: Couldn't find a bar close enough that they were willing to deliver some green beer for our celebrations so what had the potential to be one of the most outstand St Pat's Day yet, wasn't... I don't often use the words 'standing' and 'St. Pat's Day' in the same sentence, mark that on the calendar. Boy coughed a few times today but stopped whispering, maybe he's got the virus... maybe he just doesn't care if the government and the Chinese are still listening... Hey Google, what do you think? Goals for today, prepare for the anti-vegan feast and wash the hockey gear. That just reminded me to get the jock out of the car... note to self for future reference: When you go for a walk outside in the snow with no shoes or socks on, for the love of god don't step on the metal threshold on the way back in the door... you will stick to it... it's not pleasant. Anyway, me and the boy scoped out the washing machine in the basement, looked at the 4 or 5 sets of goalie gear that needs cleaned and did a rethink. Took all the equipment up stairs and loaded it into the 4x6 foot whirlpool tub, filled it with water and soap and fired it up... didn't take long before the water needed changed... we did that at least 4 times today and will need to put another load in tomorrow. Between cycles I got out the meat slicer and started to prepare for the feast. Salami from the gas station, rock hard summer sausage from the farm down the road and some snowman meat from some Italian company I'm sure, all cut paper thin to enjoy on some subs for dinner... oh and sliced some cheese as well, we don't eat this often, it's kind of a treat. Bringing the gear up we knock the Monopoly Game off the shelf, I told Lawson if he picked it up and put it on the dining room table mommy might play a game with us after dinner... the plan worked... by 8:30 no one had managed to collect a whole set of anything, this game might drag on forever... but then again how long is forever with the world coming to an end OR the need for TP might outweigh the need for cash in the Monopoly Game... We will pick up the game where we left off tomorrow.
