Day 185: Worked too much yesterday, I can tell... I'm not moving very well today. I went over to the neighbors house, they were having a yard sale and we put a few toys there to try and get rid of... I refrained from buying anything. This was a big step towards the decluttering of our own home. I eventually made breakfast and headed down to the basement to inflict more pain on myself. Still looking for that part to align the blades in the planer. So back to cleaning up tools... Into the sockets today, trying to make sets of things, lol... The mind boggles. Eventually it came to and end and I had to be horizontal again. What I was able to keep my self from doing this morning didn't last the day. Now the other day that same neighbor had an issue with their laundry basin, I had one in the garage I was going to make a parts washer out of... So I let them have it... Not a project I was going to get on anytime soon so I figured they need one I have one problem solved. So fast forward today when I plopped down in front of the computer... First thing that pops up one the screen is a genteelly used parts washer... Exactly what I was looking for to fill that space in the garage that the laundry basin was taking up just a few days ago. I drove to Timmins and picked it up. Met some Mopar people, that's always a good thing... Stopped at the grocery store bought a chicken since I wasn't at home cooking the chicken I had there planned for dinner... And head back home to feed people. Lawson, his friend (who was over for the night), Heather an myself... Lots to go around. The boy hid away in the basement never to resurface... I took down cheezys at some point, the were engrossed in their games. Heather and I kinda watch a movie while she tied strings together from a small ball of wool until it looked like half a mitten... Then because she liked it she took it all apart... Put the wool back in a small ball and started again with a bigger ball in another color... And once again made part of a mitten... Don't ask I have no idea. Eventually the movie was over so she stopped making knots and went to sleep.
Day 184
Day 184: TGIF (click to view gif) ok got the boy fed and off to school... Headed to the basement after eating a slice of cake. I put the thickness planer back together again and got it working... Looking for the alignment tool so I can take out the blades and sharpen them. Hmm I think it's under that pile... Nope... One XXL contractors garbage bag full... What about that pile? Nope... 4 very large garbage bags later still no dice... Maybe I will put up a shelf... And a powerbar built into the work bench... That's better but still no alignment tool. Any one got a mastercraft 12.5 inch planer I can borrow your blade adjuster for the afternoon? No? Ok I will keep looking, still have a few more places to look. Normally it's stored in the top of the planer but somehow it got wet in there, I took it out to clean it and let it dry and then... Ya I have no idea either. Lawson got home. Well I wasn't expecting that so soon... No he was on time, I just totally lost track of time, missed lunch... Argh. I cleaned myself up some, plopped down on the bed to check my messages and Heather got home from work. We cleaned up the kitchen some and made pizza for dinner and sat down to watch a few movies. Heather lasted through one and a half movies, Lawson watched the last half of the 2nd one for her before falling to sleep himself. Bored, I might just go to sleep to...
Day 183
Day 183: Well, it's officially half a fucking year of this bullshit now. Breakfast, he got up late, only 10 minutes but that throws off the schedule. He gets no options... Get up late... You eat a bowl of cereal for breakfast. Lol, I must have got up late a lot when I was a kid... Either that or my dad worked at the place that made the cereal frequently. After the boy was out the door and off to school I started to work on the books... Financial crap.. you know. Took me until just after noon... As I feared... We are broke. So nothing is new. Shower... Needed a shower after all that heavy figuring. Actually I think I wacked my head on something fighting with the smoke detectors the other night... Dried crusty blood in my hair... Ick. Then I sat down. That was a mistake... Never did get back up, I think the past week sucked the life force out of me. Lawson eventually got home. Followed by Heather... We pondered dinner, she had an excellent idea but leftovers were needing to be used... But I did like her pizza idea... Damn should have just had the pizza and stuck the leftovers in the freezer. Lawson had his online hockey training after dinner... Tonight for a change we set up in the basement. I left him to that... I came down a little after it started and he has no pants on... Aparently the pants were not stretchy enough to do the exercises in so he took them off. Lol while he was doing half naked yoga in the basement Heather and I made some chocolate cake because chocolate cake obviously. I went back down and sat though the strategy part of the training with Lawson... It is focused on it from the players point of view but we discussed what he could do to keep one step ahead of the players... If he knows what the players are thinking, what they are looking for, and where the players are on the ice he has the advantage because it is all in front of him... Read the play, know where the shot is most likely to come from and watch the open man out of the corner of your eye. Afterwards everyone got ready for bed... Mornings come early again.
Day 182
Day 182: Hump day... Well after the fire alarm issues last night and the house being up for hours until I finally stabbed that Fucker with a bis ass knife to shut it up... Heather called into work and told them she wasn't coming in... She pretty much didn't sleep after the alarm issue, she went and got Lawson from upstairs and had him sleep in our bed so we could all leave the burning house from one central location. I made the boy a pancake for breakfast because that's what he wanted and despite what people think, I'm an awesome dad. Heather made sure he had his shit together, they made his lunch last night so that was done... Pushed him out the door and sent him to bother other people for the day. LOL. I grabbed a quick shower and went to pick up sidekick. Dr appointment in Timmins. Once again, I sat in the car. Crappy Tire was next on the list... Wet stone you sharpen the planer blades, a new fire/CO2 detector, new lunch bag for the boy and a few more masks... Oh and a new tool box for Heather's nail polish... Lol on sale for obvious reasons... It was sturdy enough to be used as a make-up bag if you were a 11 out of 10 on the hot scale and didn't need make-up. BestBuy to say hi to Melanie... She helped make it so my phone didn't notify me of every time Santa took a dump at the north pole. Lunch, then picked up some stuff for one of the Mennonites... Oh and the Bulk Barn on the way out of town... Damn that was busy. We got back to sidekick's and unloaded project x from the back of his truck into the yard. I'm going to get the hang of using that skid steer if it kills me... I wish he wouldn't stand so close, it's not like I have the faintest idea what the hell I'm doing, oh ya and my one foot doesn't bend so to make the forks go up I need to stand up a little and turn sideways to get my toe where your heel usually is and then push down with my whole leg, the bad one. Don't ask. Got eggs finally from the farm on the way home, oh ya I guess I stopped at the bank someplace in there to for money. I got home just before the boy made it home from school. Seems he had a good first day. I think it was more of an orientation thing today as half of the kids went yesterday and the other half went today. Heather had some chilli brewing in the instapot. Sidekick was in the area an stopped in. He looked hungry... We Fed him. LOL. Then he slipped back off into the night. Lawson and I played the co-op daily challenge in BTD6 and then got ready for bed. Heather went back to work in the kitchen while we were killing bloons and she made some zucchini bread... But not a kind we can eat... Who the fuck does that... AND THEN, she makes bacon to add the Lawson's lunch... Dear lord the kitchen smelt like "FEED ME NOW DAMN IT!!!". I finally broke down and went in and made myself a midnight omelette. Ok full, now I can sleep.
Day 181
Day 181: Tuesday... Project x was leaving home. It started out as a good day. We managed to get the trash and recycling out... Feed ourselves... Hurt a lot from the days past activities... Same old same old. Then sidekick showed up... We loaded the truck, had a few coffees and then went to take the project to its forever home. I didn't have my ppe so I waited in the parking lot and did paperwork... Hmm... Now where are the adoption papers that go along with this venture? Not on my phone... Not in my messages... They must be here someplace... Let me ask someone here. Ok this it where the day goes to Hell in a fucking hand bag. What do you mean the adoption papers were never signed? Oi fuck, just light it on fire and walk away mate. Destroyed my equipment, busted our humps and got boned... I paid the boy anyway for his share of the work. Got home just after dinner... Felt sick about the whole thing. Maybe I can make picnic tables out of the leftovers... Anyone need a picnic table or a Muskoka chair? Heather hot home, I made chicken stuffed with ham and cheese to make me feel better... It didn't help as much as I had hoped. Sure it was good but not good enough to fix today. We watched a movie with a lot of people killing each other... That helped some too. Lol. Wait, I thought today was over... Apparently we have a fire in the house. Smoke alarms are going off outside everyone bedrooms... No one is waking up... I checked the place out, seems to be a faulty alarm, I took 3 of them down and cleaned them out with compressed air as per the directions an set out to testing them all... Not like I was going to wake anyone here. Heather eventually got up and brought down the boy to sleep in our room. So I've isolated the bad one. It's under my pillow right now... It goes off about every 1 to 5 minutes, it is 4 years and 4 days old and I'm now pulling it's heart out. Meh, there is another still in the wrapper... Let's see it says to move the label and permanently turn it off by moving this lever that just broke off and did nothing... Fucking garbage. Ok I got this:
Rod Turnbull
I gotta stop buying the costly ones... Fucking garbage.
Garbage Smoke Detector
Rod Turnbull
Oh but that did solve the noise issue.
Day 180
Day 180:. Must be Labour Day... Laboured our asses off today on project x... The whole family helped out. I started in the basement with the thickness planer ripped apart and re'fuse'ing to work... Turns out the breaker had pretty much given up... I found one in an old fuse box in the garage and wired it up to keep me going. Heather had set up a work station outside and started working on the assembly process... The boy carried more wood. We eventually broke for lunch and boy was set free to go out and play with his friends. Heather and I teamed up and finish the piles we were working on just in time to go in and make dinner. After dinner no one moved... We watched a movie on and all crashed. I did what I rarely do but thought was kind of important in light of what I had been through the last few days and took something for the pain... It didn't help as per usual which is why it rarely happens.
Day 179
Day 179: Day of rest my ass... Heather made breakfast this morning, fried eggs, bacon, and some bread like thing toasted... Got working on milling some more lumber... Saws and planers oh my... Broke for lunch, even the planer overheated and took a break. After lunch it was more of the same. Boy escaped on his in bike for a while to avoid the wood. We Heather was helping all day and by dinner we were cooked. Buffalo wings tonight, and a few BBQ wings as well. After dinner it started to rain again... The wood got covered and we quit. Watched a few movies, Venom and some Tom Cruise sniper movie... Both were good and sunshine crashed shortly after the ended but not before raiding the brownies and whip cream.
Day 178
Day 178: Saturday, got up late, Heather opted to eat the rest of her omelette from last night... it was still twice the size of something you would get in a restaurant. I said Heather are you sure you don't want a pancake? No she was good with the egg thing. OK... She made Lawson a Cinnamon Raisin Bagel with butter and Cream Cheese, he wanted something he could eat while he was gaming with his friends. So I'm mixing up the batter for my pancake... Heather gets her fingers in the batter... I have a good idea where this is going, I should have just made enough for both of us. I butter it on the pan and she's standing there with her fork poised... she gets the first bite of my breakfast, and then the second... I tried a bite and thought some powdered sugar would be nice on this chocolate coffee GF wonder... yes that's better... the fork swoops in for another bite. Had to taste it again with sugar on it... it was only one little pancake, and getting smaller by the second... I squirreled it away into the other room and sat down at the table to eat before it was all gone. Heather made some buns and went out to do some shopping. I went to the basement to address the problems with project x. The boy didn't notice she was gone for the first hour or so... until he asked to go for a bike ride with his friends, had to ask me, couldn't find mom anyplace. He was to push a samich in his pie hole before he left and was to be home before dinner... seemed fair. Sidekick stopped by to pick up the pipe we can't use because it's too short... the hardware store tells him he needs to pay a restocking fee of about $130 because they didn't give him what he asked for... that's fucked up. I told him he should pay it. Am I wrong? If you thought yes to yourself, just so you know, you are an idiot. I continued to work on the project, some inside, some outside... depended on which cloud was floating over the house at the time... raining 5 minutes every hour all day long is just wrong. Heather got home and made steak and stuff for dinner... someplace in the day she made brownies too... got a bad recipe... not sure what was up with that, they turned out too sweet and dry and crumbly. We looked at each other and had the same thought... whipped cream with no sugar and crumble the brownies up in that... use the cream as a matrix and fold in the chocolate crumbs. That worked, problem solved. We caught up to date on Lucifer on Netflix, that pretty much finished Heather off... sleepy sounds started coming from the other side of the bed. And once again... too sore to sleep. Maybe I will go play with my tank for a bit...
Rod's Racing Tank
Day 177
Day 177: 6 more days... I wake up early, 6:30ish... The world was pretty much ending in a dream I was having so there wasn't any inspiration to toll over and go back to sleep just to finish the dream... Anyway, still having on again off again shitty weather. Fed the boy breakfast, no milk for the cereal so cream would have to do... Life it though. I had bought some eggs last night but forgot them in the car which was now in Kirkland Lake... So I kinda didn't eat breakfast. Back to milling wood... Not sure the thickness planer is going to make it through the job and I'm pondering alternatives. I trudged on, boy moved wood in and out of the house. At lunch we took a break, finished up last nights leftovers and I looked for planer parts and used planers on the internet. No luck, I went back down to finish killing the one I had. Lawson went out for a bike ride with his friend, the found a freaky mud bug and brought it home. Apparently it was rare, he was interested in keeping it because in a few days it was going to turn into a Dobson fly... I looked it up on the internet... Seems it might not turn into a fly for 1 to 3 years, lived in an environment been we couldn't really provide and ate food that is not readily available... So we took some photos and he took it back to the river. The eggs made it home. I made them into 2 very large omelettes, ham, bacon, cheese, fried onions and peppers, mushrooms... Must have been about 5 lbs each. Lol After diner Heather and I binge watched some Lucifer... Eventually she blacked out and fell to sleep... I'm still up.
Hellgrammite - Dobsonfly Larva
Day 176
Day 176:. Damn it's getting close to half a year... 14 days... You know, same difference. Out of eggs, no cash on hand to get more... Won't pay the extortionate rates to take money from the machine at only bank in town... Ends up costing something stupid like $29 to take out $20... Fuck them I'll starve first. The boy had cereal... We need more milk now too. Apparently we didn't go to town yesterday like we normally do and it's starting to show. As I go to set up the tent outside to work in the rain all day I notice a report on the net that we are getting high winds this morning (90kmph area) so I hold off and head back to the basement for the day, sill lots of planing to do... Shut the blades are dull, I want to fix it but I want to finish the project first. I trudged on. Pancakes for lunch... Ya 2nd breakfast I guess... Some days the boy just gets what he wants. I shove some ear plugs in and head back to the planer. Heather gets home with out me realizing and the time gets away from me... I come up almost an hour later. Time to get ready for the boys online hockey training. I hotspot the phone in the driveway and link up the laptop in the garage, set up the monitor, and bob's your uncle... RIP uncle Bob. Some stick handling and exercises then a lesson on hockey strategy, setting up a delay when breaking in to the oppositions end. Some strategy for the boy to think about, watch the delay and look for the open man, that is where the shot will eventually come from... Read the play! Afterwards we finished up dinner and all went to bed. Late night hockey is going to do a number on us this season I'm sure.
